After multiple visits to Rotterdam, I am convinced it is the food centre of The Netherlands. The best Rotterdam restaurants consist of everything from street food to 12-course fine dining – Rotterdam is filled with culinary geniuses.
I have complied my top must-eat Rotterdam restaurants to help you plan your next visit, the lists consist of popular tourist haunts as well as local’s favourites.

The Best Restaurants in Rotterdam
Map overview of the top Rotterdam restaurants
Newly opened 2018, Food Hallen describes itself as a celebration of flavours. Similar to the Markthal, Food Hallen serves worldwide street food style cuisine that can be shared in a communal area. It is a great place to go with a group of friends, as everyone can choose their own cuisine and I would recommend it for a quick but tasty lunch in Rotterdam.
If you are looking for evening drinks in Rotterdam they also have a fantastic gin bar which I highly recommend.
Address: Wilhelminakade 58, 3072 AR Rotterdam, Netherlands
The Aloha Bar was once a kid’s waterpark overlooking the water, it is now a cool restaurant with laid back vibes and beautiful views. They have a great selection of vegetarian and vegan options, inventive options as well not just last-minute thoughts.
I would recommend here for lunch or dinner in Rotterdam.
Address: Maasboulevard 100, 3063 NS Rotterdam, Netherlands
Located close to the Cube Houses is the Markthal. The Markthal is a unique horseshoe-shaped building which holds around 100 fresh food stands, nearly 15 food shops, various restaurants and a supermarket. It is a fantastic place to visit for a quick street food style lunch.
Be sure to look up to take in the beautiful mural across the ceiling, the ‘Horn of Plenty’ by Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam.
As previously mentioned the Markthal is great for street food-style options and grabbing a quick bite to eat or a coffee. If you are looking for things to do in Rotterdam with kids then be sure to check out the Dragon’s Breath stall.
Address: Verlengde Nieuwstraat, 3011 GM Rotterdam, Netherlands
I will start by saying I adore Op Het Dak and I will continue to visit on all future visits to Rotterdam. Op Het Dak is a rooftop cafe and gardens which serve homegrown or locally sourced dishes.
Op Het Dak is a real hidden gem, somewhere to have a tranquil escape from the businesses of the city below. It does get really busy, with locals and tourists, so I would recommend visiting earlier in the day than later.
Op Het Dark is of the best Rotterdam restaurants for Vegetarian and vegan food.
Address: Schiekade 189, 3013 BR Rotterdam, Netherlands
Asian and French cuisine, classic appearance with a personal character. Mood by Eveline Wu combines a modern and trendy interior with excellent international cuisine.
Mood is one of the best sushi restaurants in Rotterdam and has the perfect atmosphere for a celebratory meal.
Address: Otto Reuchlinweg 999, 3072 MD Rotterdam, Netherlands
Another hidden gem and not a place that is frequented often by tourists. On my visit, on a Tuesday night, the place was heaving with locals and after eating there I can understand why.
Visit here for luxury dining complemented by a wine-paired for each dish served. De Matroos en het Meisje is somewhere you can instantly tell how much work has gone into each and every dish, somewhere you can tell the chefs have a real passion for their art.
The Delft Blue print interior also makes for a fun backdrop for dinner as well.
Address: Delistraat 52, 3072 ZL Rotterdam, Netherlands
A small, hipster-style place that serves a wide range of burgers and beers surrounded by walls full of various illustrations.
My favourite thing? They had a decent selection of vegetarian burgers, and I am not just talking generic vegetable patties. I had the Hot Nuts Burger – Spicy sweet potato, peanut and coconut burger with lettuce, tomato, pickled onion and carrot, salsa verde.
Address: Witte de Withstraat 94B, 3012 BT Rotterdam, Netherlands
Dumbo is an exclusively vegan restaurant in Rotterdam serving tapas styling ‘experience’ dining alongside some fantastic cocktails.
Dumbo is more for dining alongside the main event of cocktails, as opposed to a restaurant to head to for a large meal.
Address: Hoogstraat 44a, 3011 PS Rotterdam, Netherlands
A huge restaurant with an attached hotel that offers North African and Middle Eastern cuisine. Firstly, the restaurant is beautiful, hundreds of intricate glass lanterns hang from the ceiling across the three floors creating ambient lighting, the food is also brilliant with a wide array of vegetarian options.
This restaurant gets extremely busy, therefore, if you are planning on dining on a weekend book in advance. Alternatively, visit on a weeknight to avoid the crowds.
Address: Witte de Withstraat 16, 3012 BP Rotterdam, Netherlands
The Best Bars in Rotterdam
No day in Rotterdam would be complete without drinks with a view and views do not come better than the one from the NHow Bar. Go here for cocktails with a view overlooking the Maas River and the glowing Erasmus Bridge.
Address: Wilhelminakade 137, 3072 AP Rotterdam, Netherlands
Wunderbar is predominately a bar, rather than a restaurant but they serve good food with a great atmosphere as well a lot of outdoor seating.
Wunderbar is a great place to go for a quick bite to eat before having drinks on Witte de Withstraat.
Address: Boomgaardsstraat 71, 3012 XA Rotterdam, Netherlands
Rotterdam Food Tours
Food tours of Rotterdam are a fantastic way to experience the great food scene when short on time. They are normally always run by a local, therefore you are guaranteed to sample the best restaurants as opposed to the more common tourist spots.
Previously I have joined the Rotterdam Bike and Bite Tour – which I fully recommend – however, I have also listed a few more options below.
When it comes to the food scene, Rotterdam is my favourite city in The Netherlands. I hope you have found some gems in this round-up of the must-eat Rotterdam restaurants and feel free to share any recommendations you may have.
